The Summer Reading Issue

We love to read and summer gives us so many chances to open a great book. Here are a list of some of our favorite books and some of our favorite treats to go with them.

Anything by Jodi Picoult. Jodi Picoult's books really make you think and feel and definitely require some major comfort food. We can't think of anything better to go with a Jodi Picoult book then Chocolate Brownie Bread. Cut it in small, bite size pieces so you don't mess up your library book!

"Breaking Dawn" by Stephanie Meyer, the fourth in the Twilight series. You may have seen the movie based on the first book. The story of Edward and Bella ends in the fourth and final book of the series. We won't give away any plot details. Grab a loaf of Cheddar Garlic, fire up the George Foreman grill and make a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich and indulge in this book that will make you feel 17 again.

Captain Underpants books by Dav Pilkey are a great way to get your kids to read over the summer. These "graphic novels" about adorable Harold and George and their mischievous antics will help your child fulfill their school's summer reading requirement. We recommend Peanut Butter and Jelly on Old Fashioned White for anything by Pilkey. He would be delighted to see the sticky fingerprints on his books.

Of course, we love a great book about cooking and what better than "Julie and Julia," by Julie Powell. Powell tells her wonderful story of her ambitious desire to cook her way through Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year. You will want to fire up the stove and try your hand at one of Child's very French recipes. But it is summer and we don't want you to heat up your house too much. May we recommend a Baguette with some Vanilla Honey Butter to tide you over until the weather cools?

Enjoy your summer reading! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.
