Breakfast, Anyone?

We know many of you have a lovely tradition of getting your kids on the bus on the first day of school and heading out with friends for breakfast. In addition, to our fabulous scones and muffins, we make some amazing breakfast sandwiches. Our coffee is always fresh and hot, so skip the dried out bagels and stop by GH. And while you're here, pick up some cookies to help your kids celebrate making it through the first day.

And as a special treat, mention this blog today only, and get a free small coffee to go with your breakfast goodie!

We hope to see you soon! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

Healthy Lunch

With the first day of school right around the corner, we know you are desperate for some healthy lunch ideas. The Healthy Lunch Challenge winner from Maryland, our buddy Sam (pictured with his new friend, Sam Kass, White House Chef) might have some ideas for you. His recipe for Sizzling Tofu with Green Onions and Sugar Snap Peas won him a trip to the White House this week! Of course, that isn't every kids idea of a good lunch. If your kids like things that are more standard, such as a nice sandwich, why not start with some of the wonderful GH breads? Our whole grain breads are a great choice and whole grains are known to be very nutritious and their complex carbohydrates keep you going a lot longer than those grocery store breads that are full of sugar and fillers. Blech!

We also have a fantastic selection of Frontier  and Maggie and Mary Soup Mixes. Many of them can be prepared in a jiffy - under an hour! Or you can whip up a pot on the weekend and send it for lunch in a thermos. By the way, Sam is a big fan of soup for lunch. He LOVES the Frontier Asparagus Almond Soup!

Come in and get more lunch ideas. We hope to see you soon! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

Just Around the Corner

In the next week or so, our college students are heading back to school, or in some cases, heading to school for the first time. We know they'll be much more productive then the guy on the left! We thought it would be fun to post their favorite breads. Come in and say goodbye and grab a loaf!

Matt - Challah
Trystan - Howard County Bread
Corey - Cinnamon Swirl
Nikki - Cheddar Garlic
Langan - Rosemary Lavender Foccacia

We won't see them for months but we hope to see you soon! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

Ravens WIN!!!

Did you see the Ravens destroy the Falcons last night? Wasn't it great? We're sure it has you thinking about the football season and all the gatherings you will host and attend. We encourage you to browse through the blog and our Facebook page to re-familiarize yourself with some of our football sandwich favorites. Here are some ideas:
  • Cheddar Garlic
  • Asiago Pesto
  • Spinach Feta
  • Parmesan and Plain Sour Dough
  • Challah
Have you ever had one of our Office Hoagies? Take your favorite GH sandwich and have us make it on a whole loaf of Challah or Foccacia. It will serve up to 12.

We hope to see you soon! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

Paper or Plastic or Free Bread?

You know and we know how bad plastic bags are for the environment--but when you buy 6 loaves of our delicious handcrafted bread, you gotta put them in SOMETHING right?

Our cashiers see just how much plastic goes to waste, and we're so excited to announce that we are now selling fabulous REUSABLE totes for ONE DOLLAR!  We have a limited supply, so ask for one at your next visit!

And just to make sure you remember to use your bag, we'll give you an extra signature on your bread card every time you do!

Hmm...warm Vanilla Almond Swirl should be coming out of the oven soon!  We hope to see you today!

You may not remember what you were doing 40 years ago this summer, but there were a few guys who were pretty busy breaking and entering into the DNC offices in the Watergate Complex. Hence the beginning of the Watergate Scandal that brought down a president and made two Washington Post reporters (Woodward and Bernstein) pretty famous guys.

What does this have to do with GH, you ask? Not a lot except that yesterday, this blogger saw ROBERT REDFORD!!! It's sort of a long story and we'll spare you the details, but things will never be the same for me, with the image of this perfect specimen of a man permanently affixed in my mind.

Back to the baked goods! Come celebrate this celebrity sighting with some Outrageous Brownies, Bodacious Blondies or potentially, the World's Best Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

We hope to see you soon. Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.
