New Stuff

We have new soup mixes from Frontier Soups and they are fabulous. Our all-time favorite is probably the Black Bean. Or maybe it's the Corn Chowder. If you're looking for something super healthy, we recommend the Wheat Berry Chili. All these soups come with beans, veggies and spices. You just add broth, meat (only if you want to) and more veggies (which we recommend). Simmer in your crock pot and you'll have a delightful warm meal to satisfy all the voracious appetites in your home.

Don't Forget the Bread!

Of course no meal of hearty, delicious soup is complete without some yummy fresh bread. Fall is the perfect time for Hard Crusted breads. The response to our variety of Sour Dough Breads and Baguettes has been fantastic. Our Hard Crusted Breads are available on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week, and they freeze beautifully so you can buy them during the week and save them for the weekend.

L'Shanah Tovah

May your year be filled with sweetness.

We thank you for your business.

Whoops!

We weren't able to get feta cheese today so we will not be making Spinach Feta Bread. Have no fear! We will have Popeye as a sort or "Sorry/Baker's Special." Popeye bread has spinach, sweet peppers and Parmesan cheese. If your looking for a bread to serve a spinach dip in, this would be an excellent choice! And if you pick one up today, it will still be lovely for football on Sunday. Remember, most of our breads stay fresh right on your counter for 7 to 10 days.

You've Heard of Christmas in July

But have you heard of St. Patrick's Day in September? You can experience it at the Great Harvest in Columbia! We will have Irish Soda Bread this month. Made with buttermilk and raisins, this March delight will have you whistling "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" and "Danny Boy" all month. As with many of our breads, Irish Soda Bread freezes well so pick up some extra loaves for the freezer so you can enjoy them in coming months.

Other Misplaced Holiday Treats
We usually have Ginger Bops on the menu for the winter holidays, but we are also offering these delightful cookies on Thursdays in September. Our Ginger Bops are a cross between a ginger cookie and a molasses cookie. They are to die for, and tremendously popular. Stop by on Thursdays and see for yourself.

Soccer Saturdays?
The Saturday soccer games are back in full swing. Don't forget that Great Harvest has sandwiches to fill the bellies of all the budding Beckhams that chase around the soccer fields of Howard County. We recommend our lightly smoked, thinly sliced lean turkey breast with swiss cheese on your choice of bread.

Fall is Here II

Fall is here and while our tans fade, our culinary opportunities only rise. Great Harvest has many breads, jams and savory sauces to help you find your way back into the kitchen.

We just mentioned our new assortment of American Spoon Fruit Butters. So many delightful flavors and so many ways to use them. One of our favorites (besides a healthy dollop on some Honey Wheat Bread) is to add them to your favorite marinade. We like to combine a few tablespoons of Cherry Butter, 1/4th cup of white wine, salt and pepper to make a delectable marinade for pork chops or pork loin roast.

Don't forget our savory sauces from Stonewall Kitchen. Combine the Burgundy Marinade with some red wine and you have a fabulous marinade for beef or mushrooms.

Breakfast is Served

It's time to start making some real breakfasts again. Cold cereal may have been okay for the summer, but it's time for a hot breakfast. We have several breads that can be used for French Toast, including Cinnamon Chip, Cinnamon Swirl, Apple Crunch, and Challah. Pick up a recipe for French Toast Casserole the next time you stop in.

Speaking of Challah

We are poised to take your Round Challah orders for the Jewish Holidays. We will offer Round Challah with or without raisins. We will also have Chocolate Babka, Apple Walnut Honey Swirl and Vanilla Almond Swirl. We also have Karen's fantastic local honey, voted Best Dark Honey at the Howard County Fair. Place your orders now!
