Craving a New Taste?

We have a new sandwich for you! We take oven roasted chicken breast marinated in a buffalo sauce, our fabulous Blue Cheese Spread and put it on your choice of bread with lettuce, tomato, and onion. It's the Buffalo Blue Sandwich! And don't forget, if you don't want to stand in line waiting for lunch, you can call ahead and we'll have your sandwich waiting for you.

Pool Treats
Looking for a tasty treat for the pool that won't melt away? Our muffins, scones and batter breads are a perfect fit for the pool. Today, we have Jewish Apple Cake and Muffins which have a great fall flavor (it will help scare away the heat!). Other favorites are Lemon Pound Cake and our cholesterol free Chocolate Brownie Bread.

Grain Change
Have you been away this summer? That you may not have noticed that we moved around the grain breads. If you love our Nine Grain, stop by for it on Tuesday. Woodstock is now available on Friday, and Dakota and Ho. Co. Bread are baked on Saturday. High Five Fiber and Whole Grain Goodness will be available as always on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.

We hope to see you soon. Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

TOO HOT!!!!

In a rare occurrence, we have decided to skip soup today. Seriously, who can eat hot soup on a day like this? We have a great assortment of sandwiches, though. We recommend the Power House or Hummus Delight. Both are filled with veggies so they won't overfill you.

Don't Forget the Pie!!
Need we remind you that it's PIE DAY!!! Our wonderful Sour Cream Fruit Pies are available. And we don't care what nutritionists say, pie is acceptable to eat for all meals when the heat index is expected to reach 115! Cupcakes on a day like this? Never!

We hope to see you soon. Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

Too Hot for your Ovens?

It's never too hot for ours! And in case you weren't aware, it is perfectly legitimate to serve sandwiches for dinner on swelteringly hot days! We can make them for you, or you can come get a fresh loaf of Old Fashioned White, Honey Whole Wheat or Challah, and put together your family favorites yourself. If you are looking for something to grab and take with you to the pool or (heaven forbid, especially in this heat) baseball game, pick up a few Pepperoni Rolls.

And naturally, you'll want some of our Iced Coffee. Unlike some of those other coffee places, we use fresh roasted coffee beans, not something that's been sitting around for 6 months. The difference is astounding!

We hope to see you soon! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

Whoopsie!

So, you may have been wondering what happened to the soup updates for the past couple days. There were distractions and people had to leave early for work and cars needed repair and estimates were crazy and... Well, you get the picture. But here we are to tell you about some special things you should try today.

Have you tried our Jewish Apple Cake? It's so tasty! We started making it last fall for the Jewish holidays and it was such a hit, we've kept it on the menu. Stop by and try some!

Too hot to cook in your house? Consider a few GH sandwiches for dinner! We recommend a tray of assorted sandwiches on Challah Rolls. Our Homemade Chicken Salad is nothing short of fabulous! Deb really puts her heart into it.

Come check out the rest of our goodies! We hope to see you soon! Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.

2011 Summer Reading Edition

Welcome to the 3rd GHBC Summer Reading Edition of our blog. In this post, we will bring you up to date on some of the finest reads of the summer (according to fancy list makers and the fabulous bakery staff). What sets us apart from all those other reading lists, is our ability to match the perfect baked good with our reading recommendations!

Topping off our list this year is The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, by Michael Chabon; the story of the lives of two Jewish cousins before, during and after World War II. Obviously, you'll need a loaf of our wonderful Challah to go with this book.

Next, we have it on good authority that everyone is still reading The Help, by Katherine Stockett the story of a southern lady who returns home to the south and begins her quest to be a writer. She gets a job as a columnist for the local paper who doles out advice on housecleaning, which of course, she has never done so she enlists the help of the family maid. Pie will be the only thing we can suggest you have with this read. Don't fret! Our Sour Cream Fruit Pie is MUCH better than the pie in the book!

With the last movie due to be released in just 10 days, you must rush to catch up on the adventures of Harry Potter and all his friends in the book series by JK Rowling. Since Potter and friends did enjoy their visits to the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, we know they would love GHBC. We think they would approve of all our sweets, but we believe they would go nuts for our Snickerdoodles!

The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon continues to be among the favorites of the ladies at GHBC. This capitvating tale of Claire and Jamie whose love for each other transcends time, will leave you breathless. In keeping with the Scottish theme of the book, get some GHBC Fruit and Cream Cheese Scones, though a shot of a nice stiff scotch may suit you better.

Our last recommendation for you is Tina Fey's book, Bossypants. We've been waiting to hear all about Tina Fey and this should be the only source you will ever consult. Grab a Chocolate Brownie Bread, and nibble away as you barrel through this tale of Tina's life before, during and after SNL helped make her a star.

If you need more reading recommendations, stop by the bakery and ask for Langan.

We hope to see you soon. Your friends at the Great Harvest in Columbia.
